Gorillaz Interview

What are some current albums you like? (Please list four albums, artist or group name, title of album, and 3 to 4 sentences on why you like it)
Russel: I’ve been listening to Axelrod, he’s the grandfather of Hip-Hop and totally out there. That man is an inspiration to us all! 2D and I have been playing a UK Hip-Hop act by the name of Skitz, they’re right on the button when they say that Cash Converters was invented for junkies.
Noodle: Shaggy-san! Mr Boombastic, call me fantastic!
Murdoc: Yes, Noodle is getting to that funny age, playing one pop album non-stop and experimenting with make-up. The trouble is, you can’t tell a ten-year-old Karate expert that she can’t wear her new spangly boob tube because she’s likely to knock you out!
2D: I love Manu Chao... Próxima Estación... Esperanza, his music really is the food of love. Wasn’t Esperanza the international language too? Tricky’s Blowback is cool, the pictures on the cover are a bit saucy!
Murdoc: I don’t what’s worse, the fact that you’re a goddamn hippy or that you’re retarded! Anyway, for me, Iggy Pop's new album Beat 'Em Up is right back on the money! Avenue B didn’t quite do it for me, but this new one I love, love, love!
What are some current songs you like? (Please list three to four songs, include artist or group name, title of song, and 3 to 4 sentences on why you like it)
Russel: We’ve been listening to Roots Manuva’s Witness (1 Hope) non-stop for the last two weeks. Rodney is an absolute genius! I saw him playing at The Big Chill Festival a couple of years ago and the record he was rhyming over kept on jumping, and he just changed his flow on the spot, it was amazing!
Noodle: Shaggy! Mr. Lover Lover!
2D: I like Weezer's Hash Pipe!
Murdoc: Oh, how other of you, Stu-Pot! Beware, you psychedelic vermin. Your smug pomposity with its thin disguise of tolerance will serve you no longer! Hail Satan!
What are your all-time classic albums? (Please list four albums, include artist or group name, title of classic album, and 3 to 4 sentences on why you like it)
Murdoc: The Clash - Combat Rock. I love Allen Ginsberg's reading on this, you can hear him rubbing the Calamine lotion into his thighs while he recites his verse on that track.
Russel: Dr. Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken in Town. Great style, great sound. As the man said, truly the best-dressed chicken in town.
2D: Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On and Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On. I like to think that Sly was answering Marvin’s eternal question. Both remarks and albums are relevant to this very day!
Noodle: Shaggy! It wasn’t me!
